What it does

Rebonding Shampoo is Step 1, the preparation step, of the Rebonding straightening protocol. Its Deep Cleansing Purifier formula helps remove residual build-up while equalising porosity across the fibre, preparing the cortex to receive the B-Plex System treatment in Step 2, Keraplex. Formaldehyde free and V-Label certified vegan, the same two seals carried by Keraplex, so the full two step service is formaldehyde free from the first rinse.

When to use it

How to use it

  1. Apply to damp hair.
  2. Massage the scalp and lengths gently, without rubbing.
  3. Leave for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
  5. Dry the hair completely before moving to Step 2, Keraplex.

What not to do

Rebonding is Piur London's formaldehyde free straightening protocol: it exists for chemically resistant hair carrying volume the client wants brought down, hair with the kind of natural strength that can take an iron up to 230 degrees Celsius.

A glyoxylic acid base realigns the bonds inside the cortex while the flat iron itself completes the thermal seal on the cuticle, the B-Plex System named on the Keraplex label. Deep Cleansing Purifier runs first so the fibre reaches Step 2 with even porosity from root to ends.

In the chair, confirm the hair is chemically resistant rather than blonde, highlighted or sensitised, that calls for Reactive Pro instead, then run Shampoo, dry the hair completely, apply Keraplex 1 to 2cm off the scalp, hold the 40 minute pause at room temperature without shortening it, dry completely again, then iron in fine sections.

The volume comes down and the hair still moves like hair.

40 minute pause, then iron 160 to 230 degrees Celsius

Glyoxylic acid realigns the bonds broken inside the cortex while reinforcing the fibre's structure, formaldehyde free.

Apply evenly through the hair, 1 to 2cm off the scalp. Leave for 40 minutes at room temperature, rinse until removed, dry the hair 100% again, then iron in fine sections, 10 to 15 passes per section, at 160 to 230 degrees Celsius depending on the hair's type and resistance.

Professional use only, adult use. Keep 1 to 2cm off the scalp. Do not shorten the 40 minute pause. Hair must be dried 100% both before and after the pause, before the iron touches it.

The realignment step. Applied straight after Rebonding Shampoo on hair that has been dried completely, to bring the volume down and reinforce the fibre before the iron seals it in.

Hair type Chemically resistant hair, natural or previously treated, that can take an iron up to 230 degrees Celsius. Not restricted to virgin hair by the label.

Not for Not for blonde, highlighted or sensitised hair, that hair goes to Reactive Pro instead, whose iron limit stops at 190 degrees. Not applied within 1 to 2cm of the scalp.

When should a client be sent to Reactive Pro instead of Rebonding?
When the hair is blonde, highlighted or sensitised. Rebonding is built for chemically resistant hair and irons up to 230 degrees Celsius; Reactive Pro carries a violet pigment against yellowing and caps the iron at 190 degrees, which is what sensitised or lightened hair can safely take.
Can the two Rebonding steps be swapped or skipped?
No. Rebonding Shampoo always runs first to remove build-up and equalise porosity, and the hair must be dried 100% before Keraplex goes on. Skipping the shampoo or applying Keraplex to damp hair changes how evenly the fibre takes the realignment.
Why does the hair need to be dried completely twice during the service?
Once after Rebonding Shampoo, before Keraplex is applied, and again after the 40 minute pause, before the iron makes its first pass. Damp hair at either point changes the result; the label's own instruction is to dry fully both times, repeating the wash if any residue remains.
Can the 40 minute pause be shortened if the salon is short on time?
No. The label states 40 minutes at room temperature, and that time is not reducible to fit the schedule; shortening it changes how the realignment sets before the iron seals the cuticle.
Does Keraplex contain formaldehyde?
No. Keraplex and Rebonding Shampoo both carry the Formaldehyde Free seal on the label, alongside V-Label vegan certification and the Brazilian Technology mark. The realigning active is glyoxylic acid, not formaldehyde.
Is the Rebonding protocol vegan?
Yes. Both Rebonding Shampoo and Keraplex carry the V-Label vegan certification on the label.
Does Keraplex have a shorter shelf life than the rest of the professional range?
Yes. Keraplex is dated for 6 months, against 12 months for most of the Piur London professional range, because it is one of the two glyoxylic acid straightening actives in the catalogue. Rotate stock accordingly rather than treating it like a 12 month product.
Does the Rebonding label call for a strand test before the service?
No label in the Rebonding protocol states a strand test requirement. As with any chemical straightening service, follow your salon's own consultation and testing procedure before committing the full head to the process.
